This special time of the year is fast approaching and the planning for this year's Dia de Muertos is underway.

As with every year, we will have two evenings of Dia de Muertos events, one at each cemetery.
This year November 1 and 2 are on a Sunday and Monday night, respectively.
Start time will be at 6:30 pm and end around 9 - 9:30 each evening. There will be preparations and logistical support needed both Sunday afternoon at SJ II and Monday afternoon at SJ I starting around 2-3 pm each day.
A light clean up will follow both events.

Lead up events include:
The first full week of October, flyers will need to be distributed and press releases will need to be created and sent. These flyers are currently in the process of being created.

The weekend of 10/17 or 10/24, we will have our fall cemetery clean up for both cemeteries. This is one of two major clean ups we have every year. We have a stable gorup of volunteers who participate, but we could alway use more.

On 10/29, we will have a community tamalada beginning at 6 pm.
Food purchases will need to be made (we have funding) and volunteers will need to be organized along with a creation of a flyer. This communtity gathering will be held at a nearby recreation center and begin around 3-4 pm.

On the morning of 10/31, there will be a workshop to make floral arrangements for the cemeteries using cempasúchil.
The cempasúchil will need to be picked up between October 27 - Oct 31. Assistance with loading and unloading will be needed.

Convocatoria de voluntarios y colaboradores!

Esta época especial del año se acerca rápidamente y ya estamos organizando la celebración del Día de Muertos.

Como cada año, tendremos dos veladas de eventos del Día de Muertos, una en cada cementerio.
Este año, el 1 y 2 de noviembre caen en domingo y lunes por la noche, respectivamente.
La actividad comenzará a las 6:30 pm y terminará alrededor de las 9:00 o 9:30 pm cada noche. Se necesitará apoyo logístico y realizar preparativos tanto el domingo por la tarde en SJ II como el lunes por la tarde en SJ I, comenzando alrededor de las 2:00 o 3:00 pm cada día.
Tras ambos eventos, se realizará una limpieza ligera del lugar.

Eventos previos:
Durante la primera semana completa de octubre, será necesario distribuir folletos, así como redactar y enviar comunicados de prensa. Actualmente, estamos elaborando dichos folletos.

El fin de semana del 17 o del 24 de octubre, llevaremos a cabo la limpieza de otoño en ambos cementerios. Esta es una de las dos jornadas principales de limpieza que realizamos cada año. Contamos con un grupo estable de voluntarios, pero siempre nos hace falta más ayuda.

El 29 de octubre, tendremos una tamalada comunitaria a partir de las 6:00 pm.
Será necesario realizar la compra de alimentos (contamos con fondos) y organizar a los voluntarios, además de diseñar un folleto informativo. Este encuentro comunitario se llevará a cabo en un centro recreativo cercano y comenzará entre las 3:00 y las 4:00 pm.

La mañana del 31 de octubre, se impartirá un taller para elaborar arreglos florales con cempasúchil para los cementerios.
Las flores de cempasúchil deberán recogerse entre el 27 y el 31 de octubre. Se necesitará ayuda para la carga y descarga.
