Fueled by the almost thirty year absence of an active trusteeship of the San Jose II Cemetery (also known as San Jose #2, San Jose #3, the new San Jose Cemetery and the Montopolis Cemetery), the threat of encroaching development as well as the decades of neglect maintaining this burial site, a new board of trustees has been officially established.
Under agreement with the Montopolis Neighborhood CDC, the San Jose Montopolis Cemetery Association (SJMCA) has now formally been established.
2023 Update:
As of April 18, 2023, San Jose Montopolis Cemetery Association (SJMCA) no longer exists. It has been relaunched and renamed as the San Jose Montopolis Association (San Jose MCA). Additionally, the San Jose MCA has no relationship whatsoever with the Montopolis Neighborhood CDC.
In an effort to reestablish the historical relationship and connection between San Jose II Cemetery (located at 8101 Poston Lane/Ella Lane) and San Jose Cemeterio I cemetery (located in the 718 Montopolis Drive), both now fall under the auspices of the San Jose Montopolis Cemetery Association. The new board of trustees are now responsible for representing the management, care and maintenance of both of these two east Austin cemeteries. The names of those trustees are: Joaquin Rodriguez, Rosa Moncada, Frank Monreal and Esmeralda Muniz.
More details will follow.
