The San Jose Cemeterio Trusteeship is announcing a community clean up of the long neglected San Jose II cemetery located just south of the East Riverside and Highway 71 intersection between Posten Road and Ella Lane at 2512 Hoeke Lane.
Beginning at 8 am on Saturday October 23, the clean up will involve the removal of liter, debris and the clearing away of weeds, greenbrier, overgrowth and removal of small invasive trees. Water and snacks will be available – as well as access to a bathroom. Some tools will be available, but you are encouraged to bring yard care implements, string trimmers (weed-wackers), machetes and chainsaws. It is highly encouraged to dress in long sleeves, long pants - no sandals and gloves.

Community Call! We are entering into the busiest time of the year for the cemetery and the following events are scheduled: 1) Oct 18-19 weekend OR Oct 27-28 weekend - The Fall Clean up (weather dependent) 2) Thursday, Oct 30 - Community Tamalada (Tamale making for Dia de Muertos) - location TBA 3) Saturday, Nov 1* - Day of the Dead at San Jose Cemetery I (716 Montopolis Dr) 4) Sunday, Nov 2* - Day of the Dead at San Jose I Cemetery II (8101 Posten Ln) (*These dates may be reversed) Help is needed in many different ways from assisting with cemetery clean ups to providing a tamale pot. From setting up a table and candles for the Dia de Muertos candle procession to serving as a cemetery guide. From making flower arrangements to setting up the performance stage to running errands to helping clean up afterward.
