Cementerio San José I

ProyectoTEATRO, in collaboration with UT and the XVI International Convening of Mexican Historians, kick off the first night of the "6th Fandango of the Dead" with an intimate and philosophical event in the penumbra of the San José I Cemetery. Activities include an cultural panel talk with mezcal, the US premiere of a gorgeous Mexican docu-film, artistic performances, and the decorating and lighting of the cementerio San José I.

Cementerio San José II

For this year, Fandango de los Muertos will add a new tradition of hosting a second night of cultural programming focused solely on artistic performances that explore and honor this cultural phenomenon. This November 2nd, the day traditionally recognized as the Day of the Dead, will be celebrated with a magnificent line-up of local and international artists that will share artistic offerings of spiritual rituals, theare, music and dance near the grounds of the San José II.

We are entering into the busiest time of the year for the cemetery and the following events are scheduled: 1) Oct 18-19 weekend OR Oct 27-28 weekend - The Fall Clean up (weather dependent) 2) Thursday, Oct 30 - Community Tamalada (Tamale making for Dia de Muertos) - location TBA 3) Saturday, Nov 1* - Day of the Dead at San Jose Cemetery I (716 Montopolis Dr) 4) Sunday, Nov 2* - Day of the Dead at San Jose I Cemetery II (8101 Posten Ln)     (*These dates may be reversed) Help is needed in many different ways from assisting with cemetery clean ups to providing a tamale pot. From setting up a table and candles for the Dia de Muertos candle procession to serving as a cemetery guide. From making flower arrangements to setting up the performance stage to running errands to helping clean up afterward.
